Meridian HealthCare Partners with Project Glimmer to Provide Valentine’s Day Experience for Residents
Meridian HealthCare residents received a special delivery this Valentine’s Day. In December of 2019, Meridian received a donation of over $1,000 worth of Sephora beauty products from Project Glimmer, a nonprofit based in San Francisco dedicated to empowering vulnerable women and encouraging them to believe in themselves. Inspired by this initial donation, Meridian saw an opportunity to include local businesses, professionals, and philanthropists in assisting women facing challenges of addiction and mental health by providing Valentine’s Day gift bags.
“Our staff and residents are grateful for the kindness displayed by local businesses and community leaders,” shared Sean Robinson, Director of Housing. “Some of our residents come in with nothing, so a gift like this is beyond appreciated by them. It is also a great experience for them to be brought together and share a meal.”
Gift bags included Sephora beauty products, personal hygiene items, and chocolates. Funding for the project came from Mrs. Ellen Tressel, Ms. Mary Jo Maluso and Mr. Rick Blackson, Kristyn Mancini and 850 Blues, Chi Omega Sorority-Bowling Green University, along with Jenna Koontz of Howard Hanna Real Estate Services.
“Donating to this cause was important to me because I know what power and positivity can be generated from looking good and feeling better, stated Ms. Koontz. “Giving someone a little joy in their day from a small surprise gift is priceless. If I can be a small part of spreading that kind of positivity and empowerment to women in my community, I’d gladly help anytime.”
In-kind items were generously donated by Delta Sigma Theta Sorority-Youngstown Alumnae Chapter, Sherman Creative, Terri DiGennaro and the HELMS Foundation, Udderly Smooth Udder Cream, Daffin’s Candies, and Gorant’s Chocolatier. The bags were distributed to residents at a Valentine’s Day luncheon complete with a food donation by Community Center Giant Eagle in Boardman and Edible Arrangements, Boardman.
