Meridian’s Gambling Program Coordinator Receives 2020 Vangaurd Award

Meridian HealthCare’s Gambling Program Coordinator, Stephanie Geer, M.S.Ed., LPCC-S, ICGC-II, RA, was honored today by the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board at their 2020 Community Recognition Awards Ceremony. She received the 2020 Vanguard Award, an award that highlights a front-line worker that goes above and beyond for their clients.

“Receiving this award is such an honor,” stated Ms. Geer. “There are so many individuals who work in our field that are deserving of this award and I am beyond honored that I was the one selected.”

Stephanie has been a part of the Meridian’s Problem Gambling Program since 2015 and transitioned into the program coordinator a few years ago. In addition to seeing patients, Stephanie provides professional trainings, speaks at local universities, attends community events, and provides community presentations on responsible gambling for Meridian.

Stephanie also participates in the Coalition for a Drug-Free Mahoning County, Alliance for Substance Abuse Prevention, Coalition for Health Promotion, Prevention Steering Committee, Mahoning County Financial Stability Partnership, Problem Gambling Advisory Board, is the Secretary for the Problem Gambling Network of Ohio, and has been involved with Ohio Problem Gambling Conference as a speaker and volunteer.

“Stephanie’s passion for the work she does and the patients she serves is commendable,” shared Meridian’s CEO Larry Moliterno. “She truly goes above and beyond, and we are so proud to have her as part of our team.”

The Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board held their Award Ceremony this September to recognize National Recovery Month and awarded other individuals top awards for their work in the mental health and addiction field.
