Meridian HealthCare and Neil Kennedy Work Together to Reduce Overdose Rates in the Mahoning Valley

Meridian HealthCare and Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers, two of the largest behavioral health organizations in the Mahoning Valley, are working together to help reduce the overdose rates in the Mahoning Valley. In a year of unpredictability and a global pandemic, both organizations are combining their efforts to provide a regional detox program, along with other treatment and supportive services to make sure they can treat any individual in the community who needs help.

“During these unprecedented times with the COVID19 pandemic and the relentless surge in increased drug overdoses, depression, other mental health issues including suicide ideation; now more than ever community collaboration is necessary;” remarks Carolyn Givens, Executive Director of Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers.

Neil Kennedy Recovery Centers has served Ohioans since 1946. To celebrate 75 years of treatment and recovery services; NKRC is returning to its tradition of providing a full continuum of care at the Youngstown Center located at 2151 Rush Blvd Youngstown, Ohio. The NKRC Center will provide 16 beds of medically monitored Detox and Intensive Residential services, with 24/7 access for Detox services. An additional 44 beds are available at four NKRC Sober Homes for less intensive levels of care and provide services including medication assisted treatment (MAT), partial hospitalization, family programming, psychological services, yoga, meditation, Zentangle, and prevention/wellness. Much like NKRC’s history, Meridian has been serving the community for close to 50 years and continues to expand their programs and services to meet the needs of the community. Currently, Meridian offer a 16-bed detox facility at their South Campus location that allows individuals to detox from any drugs or alcohol under the care of medical and mental health professionals. Individuals receive 24/7 care and starting January 1, 2021, Meridian will provide 24/7 admissions to their detox program. Meridian also offers several other programs and services including inpatient treatment, outpatient treatment, mental health services, recovery support, over 200 beds of supportive housing, primary care, family planning services, chiropractic services, acupuncture services, and criminal justice services.

“Both organizations want to be there for those in the community who are struggling with an addiction and need access to care,” shared Larry Moliterno, President/CEO of Meridian. “Together, we can provide the expertise, programming, and support needed to help those in need and reduce the overdose rates in our community.”

Both organizations are part of the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board’s Preferred Care Network, which is composed exclusively of non-profit organizations funded by the Board that have demonstrated that they are qualified, caring and have the best interests of those they serve at heart.

“Mahoning County is blessed to have both Neil Kennedy and Meridian as part of our safety net of care.   The collaboration between the two agencies is a model for seamless services of care in our community,” stated Duane Piccirilli, Executive Director Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board
